Top 4 Florals for Grief

One my favourite ways to use essential oils is for emotional well-being. They work wonders with our limbic system. Check out this post, If you have never heard of the limbic system or are curious about how oils work with our physiology.

Floral oils are probably the most well known oils. Even though some of them are not true essential oils. In order to be classified as an essential oil, the plant material needs to be distilled. The petals from these flowers are so delicate that distillation will ruin them. To collect these essences, the flowers will undergo a process of being "washed" in a solution, such as hexane.

Flowers have a sweet uplifting smell and are wonderful for the "dark" emotions. Such as irritability, anger, any psychological trauma or nervous tension.

My 4 go to florals are:

1. Lavender (Lavendula angustifoila): I know, not surprised right? But Lavender has so many wonderful properties. She is considered the universal oil for her soothing, supporting, calming and balancing ability. She helps with pent up nervous tension by easing irritability, anxiety and the feeling of being overwhelmed.

2. Roman Chamomile (Chamaemeleum nobile): brings calm control and easy acceptance. Her daisy-like flowers and feathery leaves are perfect for the nervous stress that builds. When your emotions become so intense that frustration, resentment or the feeling of "losing control" emerges she will help transition you to a more sunny disposition.

3. Neroli (Citrus aurantium var, amara): is a fragrant flower from the bitter orange tree. She can instill reassurance and renewal by releasing agitation. She can calm restlessness, insomnia, palpitations and anxiety (acute and chronic). Consider using her for any deep emotional pain.

4. Rose (Rosa damascena): is called "the queen of flowers" and the oil for your heart. Her gentle and sweet aroma is the compassion needed to help with emotional wounds. She can move the despair and replace it with self love. She can also nourish your heart physically by relieving anxiety, insomnia, palpitations.
